ABSTRACT

A 54-year-old woman visited our hospital complaining of dyspnea. She did not have risk factors for methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) infection, such as a history of hospitalization, surgery, hemodialysis, a permanent in-dwelling catheter, or a percutaneous medical device. Her chest X-ray and CT scan showed severe lung abscess. Her clinical condition satisfied the criteria for community-acquired MRSA (CA-MRSA) by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Lung abscess improved by anti-MRSA antibiotics. To date, only 4 cases of CA-MRSA-induced pneumonia have been reported.
