ABSTRACT

While a 62-year-old man with infectious diabetic foot ulcers was treated with levofloxacin and daptomycin, he suffered from acute eosinophilic pneumonia. He was rapidly improved by the discontinuation of antimicrobials one after another and treatment with prednisolone. On the basis of the clinical course, we considered this case to be acute eosinophilic pneumonia, probably induced by daptomycin. The reports of acute eosinophilic pneumonia induced by daptomycin are very rarely found in Japan, but there are some reports of this disease in other countries. An increase in this disease is expected in the future in the country as use frequency of daptomycin increases for MRSA infections, especially, diabetic foot infection, osteomyelitis and from alien substances. Therefore more attention should be paid to the adverse effects of daptomycin.
