ABSTRACT

A 28-year-old previously healthy male was admitted to our hospital because of severe pharyngotonsillitis with septic pulmonary emboli; he was diagnosed with Lemierre syndrome. Although effective antibiotics were administered, pulmonary lesions worsened, resulting in massive hemoptysis, which was not fully relieved by bronchial artery embolization. Pulmonary artery angiography revealed a right pulmonary artery pseudoaneurysm. Embolization of this aneurysm completely resolved his hemoptysis. Infectious pulmonary artery pseudoaneurysms are rare but can be associated with fatal outcomes. In a case of hemoptysis secondary to bacterial infection, pulmonary artery pseudoaneurysms are to be considered.
