ABSTRACT

A 62-year-old male presented with palm and footpad eruptions in February 20XX. The patient also reported having had a dry cough since December 20XX-1. Based on the acute eruptions resembling psoriasis, Bazex syndrome – a skin manifestation of internal disorders caused by malignant tumors – was suspected. Chest computed tomography revealed the presence of tumors on the left side of the anterior mediastinum. In addition, pleural thickening was observed; a thymic tumor was therefore suspected. Video-assisted thoracoscopic biopsy of the mediastinal tumor was performed. The patient was diagnosed with type B2 and Stage IVa thymomas according to the World Health Organization and the Masaoka staging system classifications, respectively. Chemoradiation treatment was implemented. Following the treatment, the aforementioned clinical symptoms showed a marked improvement. Although exacerbation of the eruptions or thymomas was not observed, the patient developed bacterial pneumonia. Despite the administration of broad-spectrum antibiotic therapy, the patient’s physical state deteriorated and he died. We experienced a case of Bazex syndrome with thymoma, which was identified on the basis of palm and footpad eruptions.
