Questionnaire survey related to home oxygen therapy patients during large-scale power outages caused by the Hokkaido Eastern Iburi Earthquake

ABSTRACT
We conducted a questionnaire survey among the members of the Hokkaido section of the Japanese Respiratory Society to determine the impact of the large-scale power outages that followed the 2018 Hokkaido Eastern Iburi Earthquake on home oxygen therapy (HOT) patients. Of the responding facilities, 87% had HOT patients. Fifty-nine percent of the facilities had prepared a contact list that could be referred to in case of power outage, and the safety of HOT patients was confirmed at 56% of the facilities. Temporary admission of HOT patients was observed at 43 facilities, with one facility accepting up to 32 patients. Twenty-nine percent of the facilities collaborated with neighboring facilities for the admission of HOT patients in an emergency, and 40% of the facilities informed patients about the collaboration.
