ABSTRACT

A 67-year-old man was followed up for bilateral ground-glass opacification for three years. The consolidation appeared in the lower lobe of the right lung, and he was diagnosed with adenocarcinoma by bronchoscopy. In the course of examining for interstitial pneumonia he showed positive for rheumatoid factor and anti-aminoacyl tRNA synthetase (anti-ARS) antibodies, suggesting the involvement of an autoimmune disease. Although interstitial lung disease is frequently complicated by lung cancer, reports of anti-ARS antibody-positive interstitial lung disease with lung cancer are rare. There are many unclear points regarding the complication risks of both lung cancer and of drug therapy for lung cancer in interstitial pneumonia with autoimmune features, and it is an important subject for future study.
