ABSTRACT

A 24-year-old woman presented with worsening of exertional dyspnea. She had had occasional wheezing on coughing for 3 years, and dyspnea on exertion for 6 months. Even though her medical history and allergic sensitization to the house dust mite supported a diagnosis of asthma, both spirometry and MostGraph results suggested central airway obstruction. Subsequent neck computed tomography (CT) and flexible laryngoscopy revealed stenosis of the subglottis. As a result of further examination in an outpatient setting, she was diagnosed with idiopathic subglottic stenosis that was improved by an elective endoscopic procedure. Idiopathic subglottic stenosis is a rare condition and is often treated as asthma. Therefore, it is necessary for us to keep in mind this disease to avoid treatment delay.
