A case of bilateral chronic expanding hematoma in the chest

ABSTRACT

Chronic expanding hematoma (CEH) is a condition that occurs in patients after thoracic trauma or tuberculosis. Typically, it is unilateral, not bilateral. However, we encountered a case of bilateral CEH in the chest with no underlying cause. To alleviate carbon dioxide retention, we surgically removed the left-sided hematoma. As surgical intervention after respiratory failure can be challenging, it is important to consider treatment options at the onset of the disease.
