ABSTRACT

A 47-year-old male patient underwent a right lung middle lobectomy 9 years ago for a typical carcinoid tumor. The carcinoid recurred 4 years later with liver metastases. He was treated with everolimus followed by chemotherapy, but the disease progressed after these treatments. Positive uptake was observed in liver metastasis on somatostatin receptor scintigraphy. Moreover, liver metastasis and the primary resected tumor were positive for somatostatin receptor (SSTR) 2 in immunohistochemistry. After he had received four cycles of Lutetium-177(177Lu)-DOTATATE, the liver metastases shrank, and the effect of treatment has been maintained for more than 1 year. 177Lu-DOTATATE is a promising treatment method.
