A 47-year-old woman who had complained of severe cough and dyspnea was admitted for evaluation of an abnormal shadow seen in the left hilum on chest x-ray. Chest CT and MRI scans revealed a 5.8×4.5 cm tumor in the carina involving the trachea and left main bronchus. Bronchofiberscopy revealed a submucosal tumor that obstructed the orifice of the left main bronchus. We could not obtain a definitive diagnosis by tumor biopsy, but we suspected a malignant tumor because of the progressive symptoms. We performed a left sleeve pneumonectomy and the pathological diagnosis was benign schwannoma.
