Background. Biphasic pulmonary blastoma is a rare malignant lung tumor. Case. A 68-year-old man was admitted with an abnormal chest shadow. Chest CT film showed a giant round tumor in the left anterior mediastinum. Percutaneous needle biopsy demonstrated an undifferentiated carcinoma. The tumor developed rapidly and he died on the 23rd hospital day. Autopsy revealed biphasic pulmonary blastoma. The tumor originated from the left upper lung and extended markedly to the left anterior mediastinum, the intrapulmonary mass being 3×2×2 cm and the extrapulmonary mass being 17×10×10 cm in size. Conclusion. Forty cases of biphasic pulmonary blastoma including the present case have bee reported in Japan.
