Background. Most of malignant melanomas of the lung are metastatic lesions from other organs. Those originating in the lung are quite rare. Case. A 74-year-old man was referred to our hospital because of an abnormal shadow on routine chest X-ray film. Computed tomography of the chest revealed a round-shaped nodule in the left S10. The transbronchial biopsy suggested malignant melanoma. Extensive examinations of various sites including the whole body skin revealed no other malignant lesion. We diagnosed this tumor as a primary lung lesion, and performed left lower lobectomy and mediastinal lymphadenectomy. Conclusion. We reported a case of primary malignant melanoma of the lung account for only 0.01% of all primary lung tumors.
