Objective. To understand how anxiety among cancer patients is changing in accordance with advances in treatment and supportive management by the community. Methods. Matters mentioned during doctors' telephone-based consultations with cancer patients and their families during a 10-year period were analyzed from various aspects and compared with those of 221 recent cases from 2016-2017. Results. Anxiety among cancer patients has changed, but many new problems have also emerged and are thought to be the cause of ongoing anxiety in this population. These issues must be addressed through medical and social support. However, as cancer is basically a fatal disease and humans are mortal, total resolution is considered impossible to achieve. Conclusion. These problems must be managed as much as possible through further improvement in medical and social support systems, which is the goal of medical staff. Nation-wide discussions are also necessary to hold common value about living and dying.
