Abstract |
Routine measurement and assessment of antimicrobial stewardship (AS) metrics is essential to improve the effectiveness of AS programs in healthcare facilities. In recent years, microbiology laboratories not only provide information of pathogens and susceptibility patterns, but also perform epidemiological surveillance that are useful for AS programs. In addition, the new role of medical microbiologists and laboratory physicians in AS teams is to understand which AS metrics are measured and how to assess these metrics. This document describes useful and practical AS metrics and issues to consider the classification, the selection, the definition, the management tools and the examples of assessment regarding them in healthcare settings. |
