Abstract |
Antimicrobial stewardship has become more and more important due to the rapid global spread of drug-resistant bacterial pathogens in clinical settings. For the appropriate use of antimicrobial agents, it is essential to take and organize information in the following five sections: (1) understanding of the patient's background, (2) estimation of the infectious organ, (3) estimation of the causative microorganism, (4) selection of antimicrobial agents, and (5) appropriate follow-up. Furthermore, it is important to go to the bedside and conduct a medical interview and physical examination to collect this information. This review describes the appropriate assessment that will provide a basis for the infectious disease specialists to make the optimal antimicrobial selection. |
