Abstract |
The existence ratios of enterohemorrhagic Escherichia coli (EHEC) to other Escherichia coli species were estimated in feces using the uidA gene encoding β-glucuronidase as an indicator. The uidA and stx1/stx2 genes existed at comparable ratios (differences in Ct values), as determined by real-time PCR using a mixture of equal amounts of EHEC reference and Escherichia coli strains. Thus, our method can be applied to isolate EHEC (O-antigens), for which selective media cannot be employed. |
