| Abstract |
We report a case of cervical abscess caused by mucoid type Streptococcus pneumoniae. An 81-year-old female with myoma uteri and rheumatoid arthritis, had 5.8× 3.0 cm size tumor of the neck with severe pain. The pus from this abscess yielded a pure growth of mucoid type S. pneumoniae. After administrating piperacillin, amoxicillin/clavulanate, tosufloxacin and drainage, the abscess was disappeared. To our knowledge, this is the first case of cervical abscess by S. pneumoniae in Japan. |
