Abstract |
We have experienced a case of Gordonia sputi sepsis in home parenteral nutrition (HPN) patient. He was 50 years-old and managed as a short bowel syndrome after resection of small intestine. He admitted to the hospital because of fever unresponsive to antibiotic. Blood culture examination demonstrated several isolation of Gram-positive rod. Although this organism was suggested to be Gordonia, Mycobacterium or Rhodococcus spp., a definitive identification result was not obtained. The patient gradually responded to administration of penicillin-G and panipenem without removal of subcutaneous portal device. Later, 16S rRNA analysis demonstrated this organism as G. sputi. This case alerts G. sputi in line sepsis of immunocompromised patients if undefined Gram-posivite rod was isolated as a causative organism. |
