Abstract |
We report the third case of infection caused by Mycobacterium arupense in Japan. A 76-year-old man presented with swelling and pain of the right forearm, and was diagnosed as rheumatoid arthritis originally. Approximately 1 year later, swelling increased and surgical treatment was therefore scheduled. The lesion was exposed and M. arupense was identified from the affected tenosynovium. We failed in the culture of M. arupense at 37°C, because the optimal temperature in the culture of M. arupense was at 30°C. Thus, it was suggested that culture of Mycobacterium species should be performed at both 30 and 37°C. |
