Abstract |
We report a case with sepsis caused by Roseomonas gilardii. Roseomonas is a newly described genus of pink-pigmented, nonfermentative, gram-negative bacteria that have been recognized as a cause of human infections. Physicians must be familiar with the characteristics of this infection because of diagnostic and management implications. This organism should be considered when a patient presents with underlying malignancy and sepsis in the presence of a central line, and if there is no other source of infection and no growth on blood culture during 3 to 4 days. In addition, we should not assume contamination immediately even if one blood culture is positive. It is important to acquire final identification of the organism because susceptibilities to antibiotics are unique. We also describe the clinical characteristics of infection with this organism obtained from a review of cases previously reported. |
