Abstract |
We have experienced the onset case of type A hepatitis among family members. The patient was female at age of 45 and her husband already had hepatitis A 10 weeks ago. The patient's symptom was improved without becoming severe and her hepatitis A viral genotype was IA. Four weeks after her admission, HAV-RNA was found in feces of her son at age of 5, but he had no symptom. It was matched 100% with the patient for DNA sequence of VP1/2A area. We have confirmed it as negative after we conducted the fecal examination every two weeks for her son.
It needs to be carefully monitored for intrafamilial transmission because antibody retention ratio has been declining due to a lowering of hepatitis A prevalence rate in Japan. |
