Abstract |
Carbapenems are used as last resort treatment of antimicrobial-resistant pathogens. Nevertheless, the increase of plasmid-mediated β-lactam-resistant pathogens, including carbapenemase-producing Enterobacteriaceae (CPE), is a major concern worldwide. Therefore, highly sensitive and specific methods for CPE detection in clinical laboratory setting are critical. In this review, we provide an overview of the currently available screening methods without molecular methods for the detection of CPE. |
