Understanding Air-Mediated Infection Routes and Control Measures

The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the importance of air-mediated transmission pathways and corresponding infection control measures. This article reviews the mechanisms of aerosol particle generation from the human body, their behavior in the atmosphere, and associated inhalation risks. It also explores the evolving understanding of airborne transmission routes based on recent scientific findings. In terms of infection control, the article emphasizes the importance of standard precautions while discussing the appropriate selection of mask types and the use of negative-pressure isolation, depending on the transmission mode. As scientific knowledge continues to advance, future expert guidelines are anticipated to provide more definite recommendations for understanding and preventing airborne transmission risks. In clinical settings, staying informed and implementing appropriate protective measures remain essential for effective infection prevention.
