Abstract |
Asomatognosia refers to an alteration of body awareness in which a patient denies ownership of a limb contralateral to a brain lesion. Somatoparaphrenia is a form of asomatognosia in which a patient showing delusional beliefs concerning the contralesional side of body. Asomatognosia had large lesions including temporoparietal, but the addition of medial frontal involvement appears important. The addition of orbitofrontal, insula, thalamus and amygdala dysfunction distinguishes somatoparaphrenia from simple asomatognosia. Further studies are necessary to clarify a pathological mechanism as productive symptoms related with Capgras syndrome. |
