Abstract |
Cognitive communication disorders (CCD) emerge with cognitive impairments after a brain injury. It is known that CCD influence patients' social lives, but there are no examinations of CCD specific in Japan. With this in mind, speech therapists need to devise tests and training tasks for their CCD patients. In this paper, we introduced a case with an auditory comprehension of discourse and awareness deficit following a subarachnoid hemorrhage. Based on the results of our two-week rehabilitation program, which used original training tasks to address his discourse comprehension and awareness deficit, we proposed a rehabilitation program and environmental coordination plan to help him return to his job. It is necessary to recognize that speech therapists should play an important role in rehabilitation efforts, so that individuals with CCD can return to social living. We must also reconsider how best to support them as speech therapists. |
