Abstract |
I discussed the neural mechanisms and deficits of reach-to-grasp movements based on physiological studies in monkeys and lesion studies in humans, which corresponds to "the first action/movement system" proposed by Nakagawa (2010). A seemingly simple action, "reach-to-grasp an object, " involves a variety of functions, and if one of these functions is damaged, a corresponding symptom can appear. Recent papers discuss the deficits in reaching and grasping movements without separating them. However, based on the above findings, it is an essential procedure for providing rehabilitation that separates impaired and preserved functions as much as possible. |
