Abstract |
Unilateral spatial neglect is a common spatial attention disorder observed after the right cerebral hemisphere damage, and the degree and characteristics of this symptom vary from patient to patient. Furthermore, the symptom has a significant impact on patients' activities of daily living. For these reasons, we need to conduct both examinations on the desk and behavioral observation evaluations to understand each patient symptom. In the examination, the Japanese version of the behavioral inattention test can be adopted to assess the symptom quantitatively. In addition, observation during the examination and detailed analysis of the results help us to understand the symptom. The Japanese version of Catherine Bergego Scale is useful for assessing patients' activities of daily living, but items not included in this scale should also be evaluated as necessary. Additionally, knowledge of the lesion sites that cause the unilateral spatial neglect could be also clues to understand this symptom. |
