Abstract |
There may be multiple underlying causes for failure in performing intentional actions or purposeful movements. To identify these causes, it is first necessary to understand the relation of the mental and physical functions of an individual to their movement and actions and their experiences and environment to specific actions. Next, appropriate neuropsychological examinations should be performed according to the brain lesion in an individual. Since the symptoms of apraxia and related action disorders vary in different conditions, the evaluator should understand the characteristics of the examination, instruction methods, and contextual factors before and after performing the examination to use them effectively. This can help in inferring the essence of action and movement disorders. This paper describes optic ataxia, limb-kinetic apraxia, ideational apraxia (apraxia of tool use), and action disorganization syndrome (ADS) using our cases as examples. |
