Abstract |
In this study, the author reports changes over time in the "variability of speech errors" in three patients in their 40s to 60s with pure apraxia of speech (AOS), who showed improvement from moderate to mild. Using a word and compound repetition task, we calculated four measures (variability of error type, variability of error location, error rate, and correction rate) based on the study reported by Scholl et al., (2018) and compared at moderate and mild. Results showed that error type, location variability, and error rate decreased with changes in severity in the clinical assessment. These findings suggest that errors in speech symptoms become less variable with improved AOS symptoms, and "variability of speech errors" may be prominent in cases of moderate AOS. |
