Abstract |
It has traditionally been assumed that post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) cannot develop after traumatic brain injury (TBI) because of post-traumatic amnesia, but many previous studies have reported PTSD after TBI. In this study, we identified PTSD in a patient who came to our clinic for the purpose of rehabilitation after traumatic brain injury, and experienced the case where treatment of PTSD promoted rehabilitation. The case report shows that when post-traumatic amnesia is short and the prognosis is poor in the long term, it is important to assess not only neuropsychological symptoms but also psychiatric symptoms, including PTSD. Furthermore, it is suggested that a way of dealing with both neuropsychological and psychiatric symptoms contribute to the patient's feeling of safety and may lead to the necessary treatment. |
