Abstract |
Traumatic brain injury (TBI) often result in both focal and diffuse brain damage. Furthermore, secondary damage and environmental factors can further complicate their clinical picture. Therefore, in order to understand the pathology of TBI and achieve accurate diagnosis, a comprehensive approach involving detailed neuropsychological assessment, MRI including T2*-weighted, diffusion-weighted images, and susceptibility weighted image, along with physiological assessments, is recommended. While activities of daily living in TBI patients are relatively easier to recover, cognitive decline tend to persist in complex or unfamiliar environments. Additionally, psychiatric symptoms and behavioral problems may impede return to work. Therefore, effective treatment and care for TBI should consider not only cognitive dysfunction, but also psychiatric symptoms and behavioral problems, as well as environmental factors. |
