Abstract |
Recent studies on cognitive neuroscience have investigated the neural substrates of human emotion and self. A large number of neuropsychological and neuroimaging studies have shown that the cortical midline structures, including medial prefrontal cortex and anterior/posterior cingulate cortex, play important roles in realizing self and social functions such as emotion, theory of mind, autobiographical memory, and self-monitoring. In this article, the association between social functions and autonomic bodily responses in the orbitofrontal and medial prefrontal cortex is argued from some recent findings. |
