Abstract |
Post-stroke apathy has not been watched for long time. However, 20 years ago in Japan, the target symptom of drugs improving cerebral blood flow and metabolism was mostly less of spontaneity. Post-stroke depression was noticed because of symptomatic depression. Definition of vascular depression (VD) also reported, but after that, people lost interest in VD because of insufficient effect of anti-depressant. It was just "post-stroke apathy", when we reconsider now. Internationally, apathy is not recognized as independent syndrome in DSM-IV. Dr. Marin is now making effort to make it to apathy syndrome in DSM-V. Post-stroke apathy is not only a symptom of vascular dementia, but it should be recognized as an important factor inducing vascular dementia itself. |
