Abstract |
Autotopagnosia is characterized by an inability to locate the parts of one's own body, and it is said to be a representative body schema disturbance. This rare disorder, occurring in the setting of left parietal lobe injury, usually is combined with other cognitive deficits such as language impairment. Consequently, the existence of a putative neural system in charge of localizing one's own body parts has remained in doubt. Also, despite the clinical notoriety, it is still not clear which type of a specific system devoted to body representation is attributed to autotopagnosia. I attempt to review case reports and the progress of research on a cognitive neuropsychological model of autotopagnosia. |
