Abstract |
Based on the results of the author's previous experiments and 37 domestic papers, the symptoms of dressing disability were classified into the following 3 categories to clarify the mechanisms of its onset: <inappropriate visual recognition>; <inappropriate handling>; and <inappropriate procedures>. <Inappropriate visual recognition> was considered a symptom consisting of 3 factors: <<the direction of clothing>>, <<understanding its form>>, and <<collating it with the body>>. <Inappropriate handling> was considered a symptom consisting of 2 factors: <<the handling of clothing only>> and <<clothing-body schema>>. <Inappropriate procedures> was considered a symptom representing executive dysfunction related to working memory and the feedback system responsible for attention regulation and monitoring.
Among the 3 categories, <inappropriate visual recognition> was observed most frequently presumably due to an error on the initiation of dressing. In addition, diverse neuropsychological symptoms, such as unilateral spatial neglect (70%) and constructive disability (62%), were involved as complications.
Considering these results, it may be appropriate to regard dressing disability not only as a disease involving individual symptoms, but also as a syndrome combining them. |
