Abstract |
Though human decision-making has been thought rational in economics, we sometimes make affective decisions driven by intuitions in uncertain situations. The somatic marker hypothesis has argued that signals of bodily responses which are represented in the insula might play an important role, in such affective decision-making. Consistently with this hypothesis, empirical evidence has been reported indicating that bodily signals and their neural representations affect decision-making in responses to unfair distribution of money, selection of gains and losses with risk, and trade-off between exploitation and exploration. The insula might be in a specific position in decision-making, because it can work as an interface between the brain and body. |
