Abstract Visual agnosia is characterized by difficulty in recognizing objects confined to visual modality in the absence of the basic visual function problems. Visual agnosia is divided into three types; apperceptive, integrative and associative type. Patients with apperceptive agnosia cannot copy a design or match an object to a sample. Patients with associative agnosia can copy it, but cannot recognize it. Patients with integrative agnosia can also copy it, but their performances are incomplete and slow. Furthermore, integrative and associative agnosia are classified into several types according to visual category; visual object agnosia, prosopagnosia and landmark agnosia. Patients with visual object agnosia cannot recognize objects, but can recognize them when presented in other modalities. Patients with prosopagnosia cannot identify familiar faces (e.g., faces of their family members), but can identify them as soon as they speak. Patients with landmark agnosia cannot identify familiar buildings and scenes, but they can draw maps surrounding their own houses.
