Abstract The assessment of executive functions and attention is a critical problem for the neuropsychological research and clinical evaluation. In the present paper, several important cognitive tests, which measure the dysexecutive syndrome and attentional disorder, were examined. Moreover, we presented a case with a circumscribed lesion to the right dorsolateral prefrontal lobes and showed his test performances on the assessment of executive functions and a battery of Behavioral Assessment of the Dysexecutive Syndrome (BADS). Cognitive direct training for six weeks was effective to improve the dysexecutive syndrome in this patient, evaluating by BASD subscores. In addition, a patient after the damages of the right dorsolateral prefrontal lobes was investigated by a battery of Clinical Assessment for Attention (CAT, Japan). This examination revealed that the attentional control of behaviors was specifically impaired in this case. It is critical to integrate the quantitative and qualitative evaluation of executive dysfunction and attentional disorder in the clinical settings.
