Abstract |
Neuropsychological diagnosis is based on information of the spatial distribution of brain lesions associated with symptoms. It helps making clinical diagnosis and is useful to understand the pathophysiology of cognitive impairment and neurodegenerative disease. While brain imaging such as computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) often provides abnormal findings of the structure, additional neuropsychological approach is necessary to identify specific lesions that caused symptoms. This verification process plays an essential role for diagnosis of brain lesions. Recently functional imaging that visualize brain activity or molecular pathology of specific disease in vivo also contributes to clinical diagnosis. |
