Abstract |
Regions related to cognitive processing on the medial and basal surface of the cerebrum are located posteriorly, ie in the occipital lobe, the temporal lobe, and the parietal lobe. In the inferior mediobasal part of the surface, cognitive processing related to vision is mainly performed. Lesions on the part can produce cerebral achromatopsia, integrative visual object agnosia, agnostic alexia, prosopagnosia, environmental agnosia, loss of form or color imagery of objects. Lesions on the most anterior of this part can produce amnesia. Concerning the inferior mediobasal part of the surface, left retrosplenial lesion can produce amnesia and right retrosplenial lesion can produce heading disorientation. Lesions on the bilateral or left precuneus can produce sudden disorientation while attending a goal-oriented task. The cognitive roles on each part of the medial and basal surface of the cerebrum were discussed in the light of these symptoms. |
