Abstract |
Despite their profoundly degraded conceptual knowledge, patients with semantic dementia often function surprisingly well in everyday life, at least in their homes. Under carefully controlled conditions, however, some of the patients with semantic dementia turn out to be significantly impaired in object recognition and object use paradigms. The patients with semantic dementia showing profound impairment of both paradigms were right dominant or bilateral atrophy cases. One possible candidate for the neural basis of object recognition and object use is the right and/or bilateral temporal lobes. |
