Abstract |
At first the methods of the lesion study are critically described. Then the author gives a critical review of the activation study. The preponderant opinion considers that the activation study surpasses the lesion study, for the former is more theoretically based. As Hanson insisted, the usual sort of seeing is a seeing of what we know. It is hence a theory-laden operation. The author supposes that the observation of the neuropsychological symptom in the lesion study is also a theory-laden operation. So in this point, both methods are even. We need not only the activation study but also the lesion study in order to elucidate the mechanism underlying the neuropsychological symptoms. |
