Abstract Unilateral spatial neglect and its accompanying nosognosis are discussed based on the data collected in a patient with callosal infarction, who showed disconnection neglect as well as several disconnection symptoms (Kashiwagi et al, 1990). Results and conclusions were as follows. The left hemisphere did not show signs of noticing the existence of the left hemispace other than sporadic indirect referrals. On the other hand, the right hemisphere expressed by means of continuous manual correction the existence of errors which appeared in the right hemispace. Nosognosis to ipsilateral neglect was severely disturbed in left-hemisphere performances, but only mildly in right-hemisphere performances. It was hypothesized that nosognosis of the unilateral spatial neglect was roughly disturbed in function of severity of attentional disorder.
