Abstract |
Repetitive kana paragraphias during efforts to correct them were observed in a 69-year-old, right-handed, pure-agraphic patient with a subcortical haemorrhage in the left parietal lobe. His penmanship and written forms in writing and copying characters were intact. However, this patient produced phonemic paragraphias when writing kana. He would instantly notice a paragraphia and produce another paragraphia until he wrote the correct kana. Because auditory, visual and kinesthetic images of characters as well as the motor realization process seem to be intact, we consider his production of paragraphias to be a disorder of character selection resulting from free-running of the intact images of characters due to intra-hemispheric disconnection. Repetition of paragraphias are considered to be conduite d'approche in writing. |
