Abstract |
We reported on a case of dressing apraxia after hypoxic encephalopathy. Though the patient had no paralysis or sensory deficits and could understand instructions with ease, he could not wear upper clothes independently and naturally. From the observation and analysis of dressing process, the authors found that the disorder of dressing emerged bilaterally, and that the disorder was thought to be due to the lack of correspondences between the parts of patient's body and those of clothes. Although the question of separation and definition of dressing apraxia is still open, the authors suggest that dressing apraxia bilaterally emerges should be thought not as a resultant symptom of constructional apraxia. Rather, bilateral dressing apraxia and constructional apraxia might be more rationally understood as two aspects of single disorder of perception of spatial relation and object manipulation. |
