Abstract We reported a 43 year-old, right handed patient who presented with micrographia following the left frontal lobe lesion. She recovered from mild hemiparesis, Broca's aphasia and memory disturbance which had appeared after the craniotomy for brain abscess in September 1992. In March 1993, she noticed her handwriting become smaller. This micrographia became gradually worsened until around the summer. Neurological examination revealed slight weakness on her right side and no signs of parkinsonism such as rigidity or tremor. Her letters were legible but small from the beginning of writing. Judging from the presence of other motor restrictions than in writing, it seems that micrographia in this case should be due to the trouble in writing caused by the inability to maintain the muscle tone. Considering the time (six months after the operation) during which the symptom was made complete, it might be highly possible that micrographia in this patient is provoked by left-hemispheric dysfunction due to the secondary change of the lesion.
