Abstract |
A specific deficit of the perception of contours was observed in a 53-years-old, right-handed patient with slowly progressive parietal symptoms. He had no specific opthalmological problem or any visual cognitive deficits in objects, pictures and line drawings. However, he could not recognize the contour of pictures with incomplete figural elements like a darmachian dog picture. We found that his deficit was due to disability of using visual semantic representation for the object to be perceived in a top-down fashion, suggesting that his disability was related to a particular type of visual agnosia, the perceptual categorization. |
