Abstract |
A series of experimental studies for direct observations of articulatory gestures in TK with the "pure form" of apraxia of speech (AOS) were reviewed, to discuss the major findings in the light of some additional findings in the relevant areas. Tentative conclusions include the following: (1) the temporal disorganization of speech movements (TDSM) in TK constitutes not only the primary source of articulatory failures, but also a major factor responsible for certain aspects of prosodic disorders in AOS, (2) which is consonant with the hypothesis of impaired "motor programming for speech (MPS)". Clinical and theoretical implications of these findings were discussed, including the need for explorations of computational models of the "MPS" and its neuro-anatomo-physiological substrates. |
