Abstract |
Regarding anarthrie and apraxia of speech, I discuss the definition, the relationship between the symptom and the syndrome, writing impairment, aphemia, the relationship between anarthrie and phonemic paraphasia, and the lesion. Further, I examined 14 patients who suffered pure anarthrie and their lesions and resulted as follows. The symptom of anarthrie is at least consisted of two elements; distortion of articulation and liaison impairment. The distortion of articulation is more prominent than liaison impairment, when the lesion is located in the posterior wall of the left precentral gyrus (representing Brodmann area 4). The liaison impairment is more prominent than the distortion of articulation, when the lesion is involved the anterior part of the left precentral gyrus (representing Brodmann area 4+6). When the lesion is located in the white matter of periventricular region, these symptoms are found in the same degree. |
