Abstract |
We examined effects of prism adaptation on cognitive function and activities of daily living (ADL) in 17 patients with visuospatial hemineglect.
Following conventional rehabilitation for one month, prism adaptation was applied for patients with visuospatial hemineglect for one month in addition to conventional rehabilitation. Cognitive function and ADL for each patient were evaluated once a month using Behavioural inattention test (BIT), straight ahead pointing test and Functional Independence Measure (FIM), respectively. Improvement in BIT was found only in the prism adaptation session. Improvements in FIM was found in both sessions. Displacement from the trunk midline in straight ahead pointing test tended to decrease in the prism adaptation session.
These results suggest that prism adaptation would be useful in rehabilitation for visuospatial hemineglect. |
